Springdale Jr-Sr High School was ranked 45 out of 752 high schools in the U.S. News &
World Report's
Best High Schools in Pennsylvania.  The group ranked 22,000 schools across
the nation and awarded Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals based on state proficiency
standards, how well they prepare students for college, and other factors.  Click here for the complete story.


WPIAL Playoffs - Congratulations to Kim Watterson (1st Place and WPIAL record - 400 m; 2nd Place - 200 m) and Emily Lelis (1st Place and WPIAL record - 100 hurdles; 1st Place - 300 hurdles) who were tops in their events at the WPIAL AA Track & Field Finals.


Prom Promenade - Parents and members of the community are invited to attend the 2012 Prom Promenade on May 18th in Springdale Jr-Sr High School's Marshall Auditorium from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.


Hometown High Q - Please join the members of the SHS Hometown High Q team as they compete in the playoff round.  The match will be aired on Saturday, May 19 at 11:00 am on KDKA television.  Members of the SHS team include: Casey Rayburg, Rachael Carlberg, and Karina Sanchez.  Go Dynamos!!


Congratulations -

♦ To SHS seniors Joe Killian and Caleb Whelan for being selected as the Tri-Athlete representatives for Springdale Jr-Sr High School.

♦ To Colin Hurley, grade 7, for taking First Place for his physics project on the effects of drag on swimming speed at the PA Junior Academy of Science State Competition.


SHS Sports Physicals - School sports physicals for the 2012-2013 school year are scheduled for Tuesday, June 5 (boys) and Wednesday, June 6 (girls).  Physical forms are available in the main offices of Springdale High School and Colfax Upper Elementary School.  For additional information, please contact Ms. Kandi Conner, School Nurse, at 724-274-8100.


Kennywood Ticket Sales - The Allegheny Valley School District has scheduled its school picnic at Kennywood Park on Wednesday, June 20.  Ticket sales will be held as follows:

Monday, June 4 Tuesday, June 5 Wednesday, June 6
Colfax 10:00-11:00 am 1:30-2:30 pm
High School 11:15 am-1:00 pm 11:15 am-1:00 pm
Acme 1:30-2:30 pm 10:00-11:00 am
Business Office 12:00-2:00 pm

Cost of tickets is $23.00, cash only.  For additional information, please contact the business office at 724-274-5300.


Pesticide Notification - The Pesticide Notification Act requires all Pennsylvania schools to notify parents, employees, and students when pesticide applications will occur on school grounds.  Please note that the District has scheduled pesticide applications to the District's lawns at the school buildings and fields for the weekend of May 11 & 12 or May 18 & 19 weather permitting.  The Pesticide Notification Act prohibits pesticide application when students and staff will be present in the affected school buildings.  Non-toxic or less-toxic pesticides will be used only on an as-needed basis.  Pesticides will be applied in an enclosed trap or on a spot treatment basis whenever possible and will be targeted to a specific pest.  State law allows pesticide application in schools only by certified applicators, registered technicians, or technicians under the direct supervision of a certified applicator.  If you should have any questions or concerns on the program, please contact the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds, Mr. Cesareo Sanchez, at 724-274-2107.
