Information on 2013-14 District Budget - May 16, 2013 newspaper article information clarifications

This week, SHS Students were able to use a driving simulator to show how speed and alcohol impair judgment when they're behind the wheel.  Team DUI brought their truck to the school through the sponsorship of State Farm.  Special thanks to Tom DiMartini and Harmar Township Police Chief Jason Domaratz for their help and support in bringing this program to the District.

Congratulations - Springdale Jr-Sr High School was awarded a Bronze Medal in the U.S. News & World Report's Best High School's in Pennsylvania.  The group ranked schools across the nation and awarded Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals based on state proficiency standards, how well schools prepare students for college, and other factors.

Congratulations - Congratulations to Emily Lelis, WPIAL AA Champion in track, 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles.  The wins make Lelis a three-time gold medalist in the events. Lelis will represent Springdale Jr-Sr High School at the PIAA Championships on May 24-25 in Shippensburg.

School Board Meeting - The Regular May Meeting of the Allegheny Valley School Board will be held on Monday, May 20 at 7:00 p.m.  Due to National Honor Society Induction, the meeting will be held in Springdale Jr-Sr High School's Rachel Carson Conference Room.  Members of the public are welcome to attend.

Colfax Meeting Scheduled - The School Board Committee to study Colfax School will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, May 21 at 7:00 p.m. at Colfax Upper Elementary School.  The meeting will provide details and tours of the building.  Discussions on the future of the building will also be part of the evening.

Pesticide Notification - The Pesticide Notification Act requires all Pennsylvania schools to notify parents, employees, and students when pesticide applications will occur on school grounds.  Please note that the district has scheduled pesticide applications to the District's lawns at the school buildings and fields for the weekends of May 17 and 18 or May 25 and 25, 2013, weather permitting. The Pesticide Notification Act prohibits pesticide application when students and staff will be present in the affected school buildings.  Non-toxic or less-toxic pesticides will be used only on an as-needed basis.  Pesticides will be applied in an enclosed trap or on a spot treatment basis whenever possible and will be targeted to a specific pest.  State law allows pesticide application in schools only by certified applicators, registered technicians, or technicians under the direct supervision of a certified applicator.  If you should have any questions or concerns on the Program, please contact the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds, Mr. Cesareo Sanchez, at 724-274-2107.

13-14 District Calendar - At their February meeting, the Allegheny Valley School Board approved a calendar for the 2013-2014 school year.  School is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 26 (SHS and Colfax; Tuesday, August 27 for Acme) and end on Friday, June 6.   Please click here for a copy of the calendar.
